Clothe Us with Your Power

Luke 24:49 “I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”

Jesus description of the promise of Pentecost is prefigured with His command to wait until they were “clothed with power from on high.”  How I long to see the church once again clothed with the presence and power of the Holy Spirit.  This beautiful picture in the Greek is the idea of sinking into a garment. We the children of God, clothed with, fully dressed in, the person, presence and power of the Holy Spirit.

In the heart of the Lord’s command quoted above is His imperative that the disciples remain in the city, remain in a waiting posture, until they were clothed with person and power of the Holy Spirit.  Oh how the church today needs to realize the substance of this command.  We need to look to Him in expectant waiting prayer.  When we see our lives so powerless, so broken that the world sees no difference between our actions and their own, we are in a sad state.  The Church desperately needs another Pentecost.  We must cry out again, seek wholeheartedly, wait for the power of God to clothe His church.

One of the key aspects of our response to God in this season is a humble, desperate plea for the King to grant us the favor of His presence. Please join me in crying out for more of His power in, and on, His Church.

Oh Lord, we will never see the renewal of our churches and nation until we are clothed with You! Lord we need your loving power! Make us desperate for more of you!
