1 Timothy 6:6-8 “6 But godliness with contentment is great gain, 7 for we brought nothing into the world, and [3] we cannot take anything out of the world. 8 But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.”

I want to encourage you to explore and embrace true contentment in your life.  One of the most powerful things we can do is to correctly orient our lives in what we are seeking, the direction and pursuits of our lives.

If we are fixed on wealth, success, or the accolades of this world, we will end our lives badly. If we seek true contentment by a focus on the glory and love of God, we will end up in the best of places.

Everything God made in this world has only two purposes.  One is to serve God, and two, is to serve people.  All the “stuff” of this world can never bring lasting contentment, it eventually reveals it’s true nature. It will turn to dust one day.  If we have food and clothes, that is all we need.  The rest either draws us closer to God by serving His purposes or draws us into the lust and ambition of this world and our enemy.  That leads to prison and death in our souls.

I want to learn the lesson of the apostle Paul stated above.  It is truly a process to clearly see all the stuff of this world as it truly is, simply a tool to serve God and people. Lord, open my eyes to see that which is eternal, what is honestly valuable.

Contentment is the grace to be at peace in your situation. As we focus on the unchanging love of God, true contentment is possible. As we are liberated from the false comfort that wealth brings, we can see what has true value in this life. 

Seek contentment through a growing relationship with Christ.  Ask God to reveal His truth to your heart. You, like Paul, you may get knocked off your high horse, but it is truly for your, our good.

Lord, I want to grow in true contentment with your beautiful, wonderful presence and love.  Help me to put everything else in the place it deserves.
