Hebrews 12 1-2 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
The author of Hebrews exhorts us to fix our eyes upon Jesus! The way to keep moving ahead in the race, the best direction, the most positive of ways, is to fix our gaze, the eyes of our hearts, on the person and work of Jesus Christ. How do we do that? The Apostle Paul gives one of the most succinct and practical answers to that question in 1 Thessalonians.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
We practically set the direction of our lives on a daily basis by rejoicing, prayer and thanksgiving.
These simple, yet profoundly relational practices, lift up your eyes to heaven. In the darkest of days, we have great reasons to give thanks and praise to Jesus! Jesus has washed away every sin and stain and opened the door of eternal relationship with our Father in heaven. In any and all circumstances the choice to thank God for the many ways he has, is providing for you and loving you, is a wonderful direct path to fixing your eyes on Jesus. Fixing your eyes on Jesus is the open door to seeing His comfort, love and ultimate victory flow in your life. Let’s lift our eyes to Jesus today – Thank you Lord….
