I recently came across these verses and once more have been filled with joy over the goodness of our God. This closing encouragement from the Book of Titus paints a beautiful picture of what God has done for us.
Titus 3:4-6 But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior,
After reminding Titus of the crazy brokenness that we have all come out of Paul beautifully recounts the good news in these few short verses.
But, when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared…
There was moment, or will be soon, when each person realized that God was lovingly reaching into their insane drive to destruction and offering us kindness and love in amazing ways. God is willing to forgive, to embrace to heal our pain. His heavenly Kingdom longs to break into the selfish brokenness of each of our worlds and dispense His mercy! He does not give us what we deserve but offers life and joy, healing and peace in exchange for our pain and loss.
There is a person of God the Trinity, the Holy Spirit, who longs to fulfill the promise and mercy of God by coming into your heart to wash, to renew who you are with all the blessings and life of sons and daughters of God. He literally want to cause you to be “born again” with the life of Heaven. And he is generous!
If you have never opened yourself to the love of Jesus Christ I encourage you to read these verses again slowly and realize the truth of the great love and understanding that God has for you. Humble yourself, admit your sin, your pain and brokenness and let Christ exchange your dying world for His new life.
Father thank you that you are kind, loving and full of mercy! Please once more reveal yourself to us and pour out your presence, your Heavenly Kingdom here on earth just as it is in Heaven. Reveal this amazing mercy of yours to those who do not yet realize the truth of your great kindness. In Jesus name I pray.
