Have you ever felt like you were not good enough? Worse still, do you treat yourself like you are not good enough?
When we look at the person of Jesus Christ we see someone who welcomes anyone who came to Him. He never curses one person, never calls down fire on anyone, and never even rebukes anyone except to get them to stop doing the things that were hurting them. He always loved, always accepted those who came to Him and always gave Himself freely to the point of dying for us.
I wish I had a Jesus volume button in my head. I am one of those people whose self-talk volume can scream inside my head while the voice of Jesus remains quiet and gentle. Recently He has worked very hard to get me to hear Him and this is what He said to me, “It is enough”.
While my self-talk was saying you need to do better, He was trying to get me to learn to rest. There just comes a point where thinking about a thing becomes self-defeating. You work on an idea, you make a decision and carry it out. You do what you can to the best that you can and trust the results to God. However, if you are like me there is always something that you still could do, or do better. Boy that guys widget is better than mine so maybe I should do this to improve my widget. Someone always has a better, business, a better car, a better idea. It is never enough.
One thing I can guarantee you is this, you will never be at rest and have joy in your life until you can say, it is enough; I have done what I can.
Jesus said: Come to me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon and learn from me for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls.
One of the most important parts of learning to rest is to know that Jesus wants you to rest and He is the first person in your heart to say, it is enough! Trust it to God who is kind, humble and who does the impossible and rest. So, next time you have worked hard on an issue and done what you can, just turn to God and say, “Thank you God that it is enough” and then get some rest.
