Matthew 11:28-30

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

In this tumultuous time of chaos and strife, rest is one of the most important things we can have.  True rest is both a matter of body and soul. Jesus makes it clear in this passage that He wants us to find rest, complete rest.  Rest is both something that He freely gives and something that we must choose to embrace.

Take note of these Key instructions in Scripture:

Come to me: we must choose to turn to Jesus in this time.

Take my yoke: we choose to lay our burden down and take up His.

Learn from me: we come ready for Him to teach us true rest.

I will give you rest: We can receive from Him what no one else can give, supernatural rest in any situation.  True rest comes only in relationship with God through Jesus.

I am gentle and humble in heart: We can experience the true character of our loving Lord.

You will find rest for your souls: Jesus offers us what we truly long for; a rest based on His character and presence that transcends all of our circumstances and situation.

Today, practice His rest. Find a quiet place, come before the Lord. Take a deep breath, slow down, again. Focus now on this portion of Scripture.  Come to Him; Lord I come to you asking for your rest.  Take His yoke: Lord I lay my stuff before you.  I receive your easy, light, love- based yoke. Learn from Him:  Lord, teach me to lay it all down and show me the truth of Your light yoke.  You have His promise: “I will give you rest.”
