Here are three keys to inviting revival in your life, in your church, and in our nation.

1. Humility! In Luke Chapter 18, we have the parable of the Pharisee and the Sinner in prayer. This is Jesus concluding statement in verse 14, “For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” The point of this parable is to communicate that it is the humble person whose prayer the Father is eager to hear. Humility is key to approaching God.

2. The Word! While our Father is happy to listen to all our joys, gripes, pains and requests, when it comes to effective prayer we need to base our petitions, requests and intercession on God’s Word. Excellent prayer is specific and founded in a confidence in the will of God! This only comes as we stand on His Word.  Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

3. United Prayer! In Matthew 18 is the statement by Jesus that wherever there is a united request He is present and eager to answer that request. When we invite the presence of God we win. When we grieve away the presence with our judgement and divisions we lose. Matthew 18:19 “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”  The presence of God is the essence of revival and the presence of God is drawn to us when we join humbly together in His will.

Humble, united prayers, resting on the confidence of His Words, is the foundation for inviting His presence into our world to bring the revival we so desperately need. Remember that while answered prayer is a key goal, His presence is the key to revival. Let’s be a people of the presence of God and let us be the people who invite revival.
